Robert Paul Grey, 75, of Garner, North Carolina, passed away on May 28, 2023. He was a faithful follower of Christ, loving husband, father, and grandfather, and proud retired veteran of the United States Navy.
Bob was born on October 18, 1947, in Concord, North Carolina, to Parks E. Grey and Catherine Wiseman Grey. Bob attended Odell High School in Cabarrus County, NC.
Bob served in the United States Navy from 1965 until 1986, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer - 3. He served on both surface ships and submarines, completing 11 nuclear ballistic missile deterrent patrols. His awards included the Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle Efficiency Award, Navy Expeditionary Medal, Enlisted Dolphins, and Officer Surface Warfare Insignia.
After retiring from the Navy, Bob worked for the City of Concord Electric Metering Department from 1986-2006. Bob always loved woodworking, and became a general contractor even before he retired for the second time.
Bob was a member at Holland’s Church in Raleigh NC, where he enjoyed serving with the Methodist Men. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Priscilla Hinson Grey, his sons Todd Grey of Hillsborough, NC, and COL Brian E. Grey (Brandi) of Garner, NC, his grandsons Alex and Daniel Grey of Garner, NC, his brother David Grey (Shelia) of Davidson, NC, his sister Nancy Grey Clark of Kannapolis, NC, and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Joe Grey and Parks Grey Jr.
A visitation will be held at Holland's Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, on June 1st, 2023. Visitation will begin at 1 PM, with the funeral service and burial following at 2 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holland’s Church (hollandschurch.org) Combat Warriors (combatwarriorsinc.org) or the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (ipffoundation.org).
The Grey family is being served by the Bryan-Lee funeral home of Garner.
Rest in peace, Chief Warrant Officer Bob Grey. Your dedication to Christ, your country and your family will be remembered. You continued a more than one-hundred year of meritorious military service to our nation, and we will forever be greatful.
You have departed on Eternal Patrol.
