Robert Peet Dickinson, Iii

March 7, 1945 — February 25, 2022

RALEIGH, NC – Robert Peet Dickinson, III, age 76, passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, February 25, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and with the blessed assurance of eternal life in Christ Jesus his risen Savior and Lord. Rob was born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 7, 1945, to the late Robert Peet Dickinson, Jr. and Marion Lang Dickinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Susan Dickinson Lowrey. Rob spent his growing up years in Charleston and Huntington, WV, before moving to Cincinnati, OH, where he graduated from Green Hills High School. After high school, he moved with his family to Dayton, OH, where he would eventually meet his future wife, Suzie Smith. He went on to study economics and finance at The Ohio State University, graduating with a B.S. in 1968. He and his beloved, Suzie, married that same year and moved to Richmond, VA where he began his professional career in commercial insurance. His career took him to Falls Church, VA, back to Richmond and then to Birmingham, AL which would be his home for 37 years. Throughout his career, he was the consummate professional, ultimately serving as an Executive Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of McGriff, Seibels, and Williams, Inc. until his retirement in 2011. In 2016, Rob and Suzie moved to Raleigh, NC to be closer to family. Rob was devoted to his church and the wider Birmingham community, serving as Treasurer, Stewardship Chair, and Senior Warden at St. Lukes, Episcopal Church, Chairman of the Board of Preschool Partners, a member of the Board of the Birmingham chapter of JDRF, and as a long time member of the Birmingham Downtown Kiwanis Club. Rob will be remembered for his kindness and gentleness toward all. He never met a stranger that didn’t become a friend in quick fashion. He was always ready with a smile and a laugh as his infectious personality and good humor charmed everyone he met. Rob is survived by his wife of 53 years, Suzanne Smith Dickinson; daughter, Katherine Dickinson Garcia and husband, Edwin, of Raleigh, NC; son, The Very Rev.
