CLAYTON – Robert Creech Griffith, 49, died Friday. Funeral Services will be 2:00 Wednesday at Shiloh Baptist Church, 3414 N. Shiloh Road, Garner. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Teresa Johnson Griffith; daughter, Kathryn Joyce Griffith; son, Robert Cooper Griffith of the home; brothers, Richard “Richie” Griffith, Jr and wife, Debra of Covington, GA, McLean “Mac” Griffith and wife Marilyn of Charleston, SC, and Benjamin ”Ben” Griffith of Summerville; SC; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Catherine McLean Griffith and a brother, Stephen Griffith. Robert was born in Orangeburg, SC, was raised in Elloree, SC and attended Calhoun Academy. While in high school he developed a love of sports, especially basketball. At the College of Charleston he was a founding father of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree and subsequently taught history. Later he received a Master of Library and Information Science degree from the University of South Carolina. As the Media Specialist at East Garner Magnet Middle School and as a life-long educator he enjoyed motivating his students. He was the advisor for the Battle of the Books competitive program. He carried on his love of sports by coaching area youth in basketball, baseball and softball. Robert enjoyed teaching Sunday School, leading in Children’s Church, working in his yard, reading, learning, but mostly loved spending time with his family. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM, Tuesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
