ANGIER – Romaine Edwards Gregory, 88, passed away peacefully at home, Wednesday, October 7, 2020 surrounded by her loving family and caregiver Cindy. A native of Nash County, Romaine grew up in Bailey, NC with her parents and three sisters. Romaine attended Bailey High School and after graduation attended Hardbargers Business College in Raleigh, NC. While working at her first job at Dillon Supply Company in Raleigh, she met the love of her life, Lyman D. Gregory of Angier, NC. Romaine and Lyman were married, August 21, 1955 and she moved to Angier and for most of their marriage lived at 518 Matthews Mill Pond Road. Romaine and Lyman were married for 65 years, raised two sons, and were members of Neill’s Creek Baptist Church. Romaine was a homemaker, worked at the Bank of Lillington, First Citizens’ Bank of Angier, Paul Bailey Chevrolet, Angier, NC, and helped with the farm, gardening, and serving in many capacities of service at her church. Romaine was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, sister, and friend to so many. Her happiest times were spent, watching Carolina basketball, visiting, spending time with her Sunday school class, and cooking for family or those in need. She will be remembered by many from her church family of over 30 years and for her many acts of kindness in the community through the years. Romaine will also be fondly remembered by her many doctors, nurses and anyone who was in her path; she would always request a hug. Her caregiving spirit, and tremendous Christian faith sustained her during her long battle with Dementia. She never quit trying to take care of someone or wanting to help even though she had to rely on others for her care. Many thanks to Liberty Home Care and Hospice of Dunn, NC, caregivers Cindy and Joyce, neighbors and friends who helped the family take care of Romaine so she could remain at home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 9th at 2:00 PM at Harnett Memorial Park in Lillington. Family will receive friends at other times at the home, 518 Matthews Mill Pond Road, Angier, NC 27501. Survivors include her son, Richard W. Gregory and domestic partner, Becky Parker of Angier; granddaughter, Melissa Gregory; sister, Pat Edwards Booker of Raleigh, NC, sister-in-law, Hearley Gregory Cox of Clayton, brother-in-law, Fred Gregory and wife, Lou of Wake Forest; numerous nieces and nephews. Romaine was preceded in death by her husband, Lyman D. Gregory; son, Steve Gregory; parents, Willie and Lula Edwards; sisters, Janice Edwards Brown and Jackie Edwards Tedder.
