Roman Stephen Okrepky, 69, of Garner, NC, was born on February 27, 1954, in Rochester, NY. He peacefully passed away at home from complications due to kidney cancer on February 24, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Anna Okrepky and son-in-law, Carson Alexander Robinson.
Roman was a gifted carpenter and worked many years in construction and home remodeling and had a successful business in New York State and North Carolina before retiring and working for the Home Depot.
His hobbies included golf and was involved in building and racing dirt track cars. He loved taking his children when they were younger to the Buffalo Zoo, mall and playground trips with his daughters, playing catch with the baseball with Roman Jr., and weekend gatherings at the family cottage near Canandaigua, NY.
Roman was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather. He adored spending time with his newly born granddaughter, Annabel and being a nurturing Papa.
He will always be remembered for his gentle gestures, generous heart and great sense of humor.
Roman was of Ukrainian descent and spoke fluent Ukrainian language. His favorite dishes were borscht, perogies, holubtsi (stuffed cabbage), kielbasa, and his own homemade Kapusta (cabbage stew).
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Joanna Okrepky; son, Roman Randolph; daughters, Lydia Stepp (Jeramiah), Ashley Robinson (Alex); granddaughter, Annabel Robinson; brother, Peter Okrepky (Wanda) of Raleigh, NC, sister, Christina DeLucia (Stephen) of Hilton, NY, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in Roman’s honor will be held in June 2024, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner, NC.
