Ronald Lynwood Johnson

July 6, 1949 — December 19, 2022

Ronald Lynwood Johnson, 73, passed swiftly into the good night on Monday, December 19, 2022.

A native of McGees Crossroads, Johnston County, Ronnie was born July 6, 1949, to the late Archie and Dorothy (Young) Johnson, and grew up on the family farm, the middle child of five. A graduate of Cleveland School (Class of ‘67), Ron went on to study at NC State, during which time, he met his wife, Paulette, started a family, and embarked on a career in credit management that would span several decades (namely, Belk and Ready Mixed Concrete Co.).

Ron was a proud 32nd degree Master Mason of Raleigh Master’s Lodge No. 754 (now, Millbrook No. 97), as well as an honorable Kentucky Colonel (the highest commision bestowed by the governor of Kentucky in recognition of accomplishments and service to community, state, and nation).

Ever the humble spirit of generosity, in addition to professional initiatives, Ronald regularly donated his time, money, and services to Triangle Family Services among other local and national organizations, children’s homes, and charities.

An eternal scholar, Ron never lost his childhood zest for life nor his curiosity for all the world’s mysteries… He was a warm-hearted, hard-working, well-read history buff, and collector of interesting things – books, coins, artifacts, dreams… And, like his beloved mother, whatever the fruits of his labors, Ronnie thoughtfully and readily shared with others. A great conversationalist with a mischievous sense of humor, Ronnie was kind, always saw the good in people, and made friends wherever he went in life. He genuinely cherished the connections he made with every single person he ever knew; this was especially true throughout his struggle with renal failure.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Paulette (née McLaughlin) of Garner, his children, Crystal J. De la Cruz – Hopper (Kevin) of Cary, and Kyle C. Johnson of Japan; grandchildren, Isabel S. De la Cruz – Hopper and Liam M. R. Hopper; and siblings, Linda J. Love, Larry A. Johnson, Rhonda J. Ray, and Shannon J. Pearson (Mark); as well as many friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and loved ones.

Memorial donations can be made in Ron’s name to the American Kidney Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The Arc of North Carolina, or wherever a need exists that most blesses your Spirit.

A remembrance gathering and life celebration for family and loved ones is being planned for Spring 2023 at the Johnson family farmstead in Willow Spring.
