Ronald Perkins Hendricks, Jr.

December 15, 1966 — February 29, 2020

Ronald (Ron) Perkins Hendricks, Jr., 53, died Saturday, February 29, 2020 at his home. He was a principal and civil engineer with Piedmont Land Design. Ron began his professional career in civil engineering in 1986 at Envirotek, Inc. He worked there part time as a site designer while finishing his Civil Engineering Degree at North Carolina State University. Upon graduation, he continued his employment at Envirotek. Ron obtained his Professional Engineering License in 1994 and worked full time through 1999 designing numerous projects throughout the Triangle. Ron was promoted frequently and ended his employment there as Vice-President to pursue his dreams of owning his own engineering firm. In January 2000, with business partner David Lasley, Piedmont Land Design, LLP became his new home. For the next twenty years, Ron helped build the reputation of Piedmont Land Design, LLP into one of the most respected and pursued site design firms in the area. Some of Ron’s projects included the Metlife Headquarters Campus, Wade Park Office Buildings, GlenLake Office Park, Garner Town Center, and office and apartment projects on the NCSU Centennial Campus. In total over a thousand different projects leaving his mark of expertise and attention to detail every step of the way. He will be greatly missed in the development industry. Ron was an avid outdoorsman. He was involved with Triangle Delta Waterfowl and their youth program. Spring, summer, fall or winter you could find him in a stand, on a boat, or in a blind with his boys. Nothing brought him more joy and happiness than a day in the outdoors with Evan, Dylan and Jeremy. He would pass on many a shot or opportunity to reel one in just to see the boys get another. Then he would take the trophy picture at the end of the day for Becky to post and that was the reward for his efforts (and for stocking the freezer). Ron enjoyed spending time at their beach trailer, “The Packed House”, in Salter Path. Ron could be found out on his boat fishing, playing corn hole on the beach, pulling the Oceanfront Court kids on inner tubes, and taking Becky and friends island hopping to look for shells and sharks teeth. After a fun day on the water or on the beach, Ron enjoyed sitting on the deck talking to friends while he grilled and fried the best fried fish and shrimp you could find on the island. If Ron wasnt on a boat or in a stand, he was spending time driving the boys to many practices, games and tournaments. He spent many hours cheering at cross country meets, basketball, baseball, and soccer games. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Becky Evans Hendricks; sons, Evan, Dylan and Jeremy Hendricks all of Raleigh; mother, Lynda Hendricks of Edenton; brother, John Bradford Hendricks of Snow Hill. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at Trinity Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Delta Waterfowl, Triangle Chapter, c/o Doug Boyette, 3029 Granville Drive, Raleigh, NC 27609 or Cross Trail Outfitters, PO Box 706, Plymouth, NC 27962.
