Ruby Adams Denning

July 10, 1932 — March 13, 2022

RALEIGH - Ruby Adams Denning died Sunday March 13, 2022 at Brookdale Senior Living surrounded by her family after an extended struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. The Lord sent the family two earthly angels, Letina Weldehiwet with the assistance of her sister, Tirhas Woldhet, who cared for Ruby seven days a week with all the love this disease required. Ruby was born on July 10, 1932 in Harnett County to Jeffrey and Mattie Adams as the youngest of eight siblings. She is survived by her sister, Macie Parrish of Fayetteville, NC, her son and his wife, Jim and Susan Denning of Raleigh and daughter, Kim Denning and her wife, Pam Evans Denning, and two grandchildren, Park Denning and his wife, Kate of London, UK and Katy Denning of Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Denning attended Benson High School and Kings College in Raleigh. She began her career at Hood Bank in Raleigh upon completing her business courses and through hard work and perseverance, she became the first female branch manager for First Union National Bank in Wake County. She retired in 1994 after 42 years at the Quail Corners branch where she faithfully served thousands of customers. Her greatest strength was her ability to listen to the needs of her customers and use the resources available to her to support their financial goals. Even before the days of computers, she worked very closely with her customers to collect their information and then spent hours in the evening organizing it for submission by hand. She was very missed when she retired. As dedicated as she was to her career, there was no doubt that her top priorities were her family and her church. She made it her goal to meet the needs of her children and later her grandchildren with great love and participated in their interests in every way she could. She served on several committees at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and was intricately involved in the fundraising and financial well-being of the church as it progressed from its early days to become an established church in the Raleigh community. She was also very proud of her involvement in the Stephen Ministry, leaning on her talents as caregiver and listener to fellow parishioners in need. Ruby enjoyed reading, travel, music, and was passionate about helping other people. Side by side with her beloved husband of 62 years James, Ruby enjoyed many years of retirement and whether they were out in about in town having breakfast together or traveling with family, they knew what it meant to enjoy every step of life’s journey.
