GARNER - Ruby Lou Atkinson Clements passed away peacefully in her home on Friday. She was born to Elbert and Alice Atkinson on August 18, 1924. She was predeceased by her husband, William “Bill” Clements; son, Philip Clements; her parents, and three brothers, Leonard, Albert, and Ruffin Atkinson. She is survived by her three sons, Talmage (Jackie), Kenneth (Sue), and Billy (Ruth); seven grandchildren, Casey, Adam, Daniel, Nathan, and Eric Clements, Holly Robinson, and Laura Miller; and fourteen great-grands; sister, Joyce Reeves and sister-in-law, Bloise Atkinson. A graduate of Hardbarger’s Business School, she was first employed by Farmer’s Cooperative Exchange in Durham. She met and married her Navy sailor and resided in Norfolk, VA for 14 years where she had her sons. Moving to Garner, NC in 1960 and, once her boys were in school, she became a school secretary from 1964 to 1989 at Mt. Auburn and later Swift Creek Elementaries. A devoted wife and mother, she will be fondly remembered for her love of family, great faith and love of her Lord, independence, vitality, generosity, short phone calls, and sender of innumerable birthday cards to family, friends, and acquaintances. The family will receive visitors in her home. A visitation at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday, March 4th is scheduled. Funeral services will be held at New Bethel Baptist Church in Garner at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 5th followed by burial in the church cemetery. Flowers are welcomed as well as donations, in her memory, to the general fund of New Bethel Baptist Church
