Ruby “Jo” Ridoutt

GARNER-Ruby “Jo” Ridoutt, 93, of Garner, NC, passed away in her sleep on October 17, 2015 in her Home. Funeral service will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Chapel, Garner on Wednesday at 1:30 PM with Pastor Jonathan Morgan of Cornerstone Family Church officiating. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Visitation will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 PM. Jo was born in Lagoon, NC to Bertha and Edwin Smith on December 15, 1921. She opened Ridoutt’s Nursery and Kindergarten in 1950 and the Childcare Center continued to nurture children for more than 60 years. She is survived by her son, Charles Ridoutt (Phyllis) of Oak Island, NC. Grandson, Chad Ridoutt (Candy) of Raleigh, NC. Great Grandsons , Chad and Chett. Sister-in-Laws, Marjorie Ridoutt and Betty Ann Smith. Along with three step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Ridoutt, parents, Bertha and Edwin Smith, Brothers Elbert Donald Smith, Edwin Carlyle Smith. Sisters, Hazel Inez Merritt, Geneva Atwood Smith. Memorial donations may be made to Baptist Children’s Homes of NC. (PO Box 338, Thomasville, NC) The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Transitions Hospice and her caretakers, Evangeline, Kaitlyn, Katie, Patricia, Sharon, and Teena.
