Raleigh- Ruby Kemp Ross, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on Tuesday Nov. 24, 2015. She was born in Nash County, NC on December 9, 1919 to the late James Bennett Kemp and Maude Hales Kemp. Ruby, after moving to Raleigh, became a charter member of St. John’s Baptist Church in 1950. She spent many years working in the church nursery and loved every baby that came through the church. She was a homemaker for many years and later worked at Boylan Pearce in Cameron Village. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Shelton Ross in 1984, a daughter Barbara Ann Ross in 2006, brothers Carl Kemp and Bennett Kemp and sisters Irene Wilder and Virginia Pearce. Survivors include a daughter Pat Smith of Cary, a very special grandson Benjamin Smith of Cary, a sister Mary Brown of Jacksonville, Fl and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Bryan Lee Funeral Home, Wake Forest Rd in Raleigh on Sunday Nov 29 from 2 – 4 PM. Funeral Service will be held Monday, Nov 30, 12:00 Noon at St. John’s Baptist Church, 1615A Oberlin Rd., Raleigh, Rev. Richard Wynne officiating. Burial to be Tuesday, Dec 1 ,12:00 Noon at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Memorial contributions can be made to St John’s Baptist Church or Transitions Life Care, Raleigh. The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care of the staff at Rex Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Raleigh.
