RALEIGH- Ruby “Pat” Phipps Mitchell, 93, passed away on Monday at her home. A native of Wake County, she was the daughter of the late Alonza and Flossie Hales Phipps. Ruby’s life began February 22, 1944 the day she married the love of her life, George Madison Mitchell, Jr. He was in the Air Force and she went to Madison, Wisconsin and stayed with him about six months. When he went overseas, she came home to Raleigh. On March 24, 1945, they had a wonderful little girl named Patsy Mitchell. She was the first grandchild on both sides of the family and brought a lot of love and joy to the family. On October 22, 1956, George Madison Mitchell III was born and brought with him more love and joy. When Patsy graduated from Rex Hospital School of Nursing, she married and added two wonderful grandchildren, Kim and Scott who were loved and were a pleasure to watch growing up. Then George III married Kelly and gave the family a precious little girl, Jodi Madison Mitchell. As they all grew up and left home, the family seemed to have come full circle. On May 2, 1999, Ruby lost the love of her life but was grateful for her beloved family that looked after her so well. Her words to her family were, “Don’t ever let anything come between you and your family as they will be there for you always. I love you all very much and I’m so proud of you… George was, too.” In addition to her daughter, Patricia Oglesby of Raleigh and her son, George M. Mitchell III and wife, Kelly of Apex, she is survived by a brother, Richard Lee Phipps of Wilmington; grandchildren, Jodi D’Ambrosio (Damon) of Fuquay-Varina, Kim Faucette (Jason) of Wilmington and Scott Oglesby (Amanda) of Winston Salem and a great-grandchild, Brooks Mitchell Oglesby. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am Thursday at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh in the Mausoleum Chapel. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
