RALEIGH – Ruth Marie MissKelley Sherrell Baker, 77, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 25, 2024.
She was born in Wake County on August 18, 1946, the daughter of the late Roy Legon MissKelley and Lois Mae Stephenson MissKelley. Ruth grew up in Raleigh and graduated from William G. Enloe High School, class of 1964 (the first graduating class), and then went on to Hardbargers Business College.
Ruth worked with the Department of Public Instruction for over 25 years as well as SBS Technologies. In the early 2000s, Ruth came to work as an administrative assistant with Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh, retiring in 2019 though continuing to serve through 2022.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Ronald Baker; and by her son, Younge Enhart Sherrell, Jr.
Of all her pastimes, Ruth’s most cherished was being a mother. She is survived by her son, Patrick Scot Sherrell and wife, Erika of Clayton; grandchildren, Peyton Savannah Sherrell (Lloyd Troop), Morgan Bailey Johnson, and William Greyson Sherrell; her “sisters,” Pat Dees and Maudie Roberts; her beloved kitty cat, Shy; and a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 3, 2024, in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh, with Dr. Mike Parnell officiating. The committal will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 4, 2024, at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s memory to the Boys and Girls Club of Raleigh.
