RALEIGH - Sally passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior on Saturday January 4, 2025. She was a beloved mother, sister, friend and most especially, nana. Sally was born on October 31, 1951 in Laurinburg, NC to James and Irene Beane. She moved with her family to Raleigh in 1961. She graduated from Broughton High School and also attended North Carolina State University and Liberty University. Sally had an administrative career for many years, with Carolina Power & Light (now Duke Energy), SAS, and finally the Christian Life Home, where she went on to become the executive director.
Sally was a gifted artist and loved watercolor. Later in life she was blessed to be able to travel to Spain, France, and the NC mountains while studying watercolor there with friends. She loved spending time at the beach and most especially time with her grandchildren.
Sally was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, where she served on the healing prayer ministry along with her late husband, Gerry. They found many close friends there that have become like family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Whitt. She is deeply missed by her son and his wife, Matt and René Gardner; two cherished grandsons Eli and Cade; her siblings, Sam Beane (Deborah) of Centerville, LA, Judy Schneider (Vince) of Garner, NC, and Jeanne Whittlesey (Tom) of Apex, NC; honorary family Jason, Amy, and Katherine Matteson of Raleigh, NC; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church (100 E. Peace Street, Raleigh, NC 27604), with a reception immediately following in the church lobby. A private burial will take place in the Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sally's memory to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
