Salvatore “Sal” Cusimano, 91, passed away in the evening on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 with his daughter by his side, in Raleigh, NC. To those who loved him, he was known as Dad, PopPop, Sal, Uncle Sal, and Uncle Chicken. Sal was born on June 25, 1929, to Louis and Adele Cusimano in the Bronx, New York. He was a veteran of the US Army, and served during the Korean War. He lived in New York until he moved to Miami, Florida in the early 1960’s. Sal lived in Florida until 2015, when he moved up to North Carolina, with his daughter, Meana. He worked many part time jobs during his retirement including helping his son, Guy Cusimano, with his business Accurate Tennis Courts, as well as having his own business, Sal’s Scooters. He loved to travel, mostly by car/van, across the county seeing all the beauty that the US had to offer always accompanied by his wife, Marina. Sal loved food and visited restaurants often although his best meals were cooked by his mother and his wife. He also loved a good game of poker or craps and would tell you stories of his younger gambling days if you would listen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Marina Piccini Cusimano, and his sister, Sara Brockwell. Sal is survived by his sons, Louis Cusimano and Guy Cusimano; his daughter, Meana Hastings; his 10 grandchildren, Krysanne Cusimano, Benjamin Hastings, Joy Shute, Michael Cusimano, Kara Hastings, Andrew Cusimano, Grace Montsalvatge, Noelle Ancona, Ryan Hastings, and Faith Cusimano; and one great grandchild, Noah Ancona.
