Sam Alford Smith

FUQUAY VARINA – Sam Alford Smith, 69, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 25, 2021. He was born in Greenville, North Carolina, on January 18, 1952, to James Glasgow Smith, Jr., and Mildred Wallace Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his brothers, James Smith, III and Jack Smith; mother-in-law, Verda Smith; brother-in-law, James Smith; and nieces, Cindy Smith and Laure DiDomenico. He is survived by his wife, Gail Smith Smith; one son, Jonathan Friend; one daughter, Lisa Munns and husband Tony; four grandchildren, James Friend, Hunter Friend, Michael Munns and Ashley Munns; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Smith and Sharon Smith; one brother-in-law, Joseph Smith and wife, Anne Laure Smith; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. Sam gave his life to Jesus Christ when he was 13 years old and spent over 45 years serving him in full-time ministry. He holds graduate degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary, Columbia Biblical Seminary, and Liberty University. In addition, he is the author of 11 published books and numerous papers and articles. God gave Sam the gift of teaching and the ability to make complex things simple and easy to understand. He taught at Wake Christian Academy for many years and was known far and wide for his dry wit and humor. He loved teaching kids and wanted them to go out into the world with a solid foundation in the Scriptures. A celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church, 1701 Bud Lipscomb Road, Willow Spring, NC 27592. Rev. Paul Jones and Dr. R. Jay Waggoner will be officiating. Sam will be interred in the Smith Family Cemetery overlooking Gail Smith’s family homeplace in Mt. Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, 1701 Bud Lipscomb Road, Willow Spring, NC 27592 or Wake Christian Academy, 5500 Wake Academy Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603. The family encourages everyone to use your own discretion when it comes to wearing a mask and social distancing guidelines. Masks will be provided if they are needed.
