Samuel “Sammy” Stephenson

January 27, 1933 — January 30, 2016

Angier- Samuel Stuart “Sammy” Stephenson, 83, passed away on Saturday at Hillcrest Convalescent Center in Durham. A native of Harnett County, he was the son of the late Fabius Stephenson and Ima Young Stephenson. Sammy was very proud of his education and his career as a lawyer and judge which spanned over 30 years. He was educated at Duke University and then went on to get his law degree at the University of Tennessee. Sammy also graduated from the school of business at Columbia University. He was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and North Carolina Bar Association. Early in his career Sammy gained legal experience working in Washington, DC before returning home to open his own law practice in Angier. For 3 and one-half years Sammy served proudly on the North Carolina Secondary Roads Council and assisted many people in five counties with their highway problems. He is survived by his nieces, Mary Vic Singletary and husband, Joseph of West Columbia, SC and Harriet S. Bohli of Lexington, SC. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Helen Brumback and a brother, Harry G. Stephenson. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Thursday in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. The burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 4701 Hedgemore Dr. Suite 810 Charlotte, NC 28209 in Mr. Stephenson’s memory.
