Sandra Nicole Underwood

Raleigh - Sandra (Niki) Nicole Underwood passed peacefully away at The Oaks at Whitaker Glen-Mayview on May 21, 2017 in Raleigh, NC at the age of 74. Niki is predeceased by her mother, Virginia Smith Underwood and father, Henry Aubrey Underwood, as well as her Aunt, Alice Mae Smith. Niki is lovingly remembered by her son, Alex Brink (Susan) of Mebane; her daughter, Suzy Brink (Jean) of Raleigh; and her grandchildren Jackson Brink of Cullowhee and Laura Brink of Mebane. Niki was born in Asheboro, NC in 1942. She graduated from Asheboro High School in 1961 and went on to earn a BA in Accounting/Economics with honors from NC State University in 1986 while working full time and raising her children. She was the first woman Director of Tax Research for NC government having started in November, 1963 as a Clerk II. She retired in 1997 to enjoy time with her family and the beach. Niki enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and had a great love of all animals. The visitation will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh, NC on Friday, May 26 from 6-8pm. A private service will be held at a later date.
