February 23, 1971 - November 8, 2011 2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept the faith. (NIV) Scott was first and foremost a man of God. He was a loving husband, dad, son, brother, uncle and friend. His wife and his children adored him. He was the type of person who never met a stranger. Scott was always smiling and was fun to be around. He loved his church families at Penny Road Church of the Nazarene and at Hope Community Church. A great leader within the church, the kids at Penny Road loved Mr. Scott and he loved them all so much. His heart was truly in childrens ministry. He would spend his 3 weeks of vacation working at the NC Nazarene childrens and teen summer camps. His dream was to run a camp where all could come to have fun worshiping God. Scott loved rocking out the middle schoolers at Hazardous on Wednesday nights at Hope Community Church and being a techy on Saturdays at the main campus. He worked so hard to help kids hide Gods Word in their hearts during Sunday School and Quizzing. You could see the Holy Spirit light up in him as he taught. He was truly a light for Jesus and we hope to continue that light and keep it shining brightly for Scott. Scott graduated from Athens Drive High School in 1989 and went on to get a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He loved the Friday Night Lights at Athens Drive, Fuquay Varina and Middle Creek High Schools. He was an avid High School football fan and would always stay up to watch Football Friday on WRAL to see his teams highlights. He was an employee of Grapecity, Inc. in Morrisville, NC since 1995. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Jenny OBrien Shorter, son Ryan (12 years old), daughters Rebekah (10 years old) and Danielle (6 years old), parents Ken and Jeanne Shorter of Raleigh NC, brother Kevin and his wife Allison Shorter, nieces Rachel and Elizabeth Shorter, all of Redding California, Jennys parents David and Linda OBrien of Findlay, Ohio, and Jennys sister, Tammy OBrien, also of Findlay. Services will be held at Penny Road Church of the Nazarene (8509 Penny Road, Raleigh NC 27606) Reverend Katherine S. Widdifield and Reverend John L. Widdifield officiating. Funeral arrangements made by Bryan- Lee Funeral Home, Garner, NC. In lieu of flowers, contributions for the Shorter children may be made to an account that has been set up under the Shorter name at Crescent State Bank, 700 Holly Springs Road, Holly Springs, NC 27540.
