ANGIER – Sergio Rivera DeJesus Sr., 69, passed away peacefully on Sunday at his home surrounded by his loving family. A native of Puerto Rico and formerly of Dunkirk, NY, he was the son of the late Angel DeJesus and Iris Rivera DeJesus. Sergio was a 1972 graduate of Dunkirk High School. He was employed for 21 years at Al-Tech Specialty Steel (United Steelworkers Local Union No. 2693) and retired from Brown Integrated Logistics in 2014 to pursue his dream of spending quality time with his grandchildren. Sergio was a member of St.Bernadette Catholic Church in Fuquay-Varina, NC. Besides spending time with his family, Sergio enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He had a kind and generous spirit. Anyone who met Sergio will remember how loved he made them feel. He had an incredibly positive outlook on life which made being around him very special. During his final days, Sergio had close to 100 visitors to pray with him and express their love for him. Those that were unable to travel reached out via video calls to share how much they respected and loved him. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 11th at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 328 Washington Ave. Dunkirk, NY 14048. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dunkirk, NY. Sergio is survived by his wife of 46 years, Luz (Ramos) DeJesus; daughters, Odett (Christopher) Giambra, Lisett (Nicholas) Miller; son, Sergio (Emily) DeJesus; grandchildren, Evan, Eli and Miles Giambra, Alba and Natalie Miller, Luna and Leo DeJesus, all of Fuquay-Varina, NC, siblings, Emilia Molina (Juan) Gordillo, Nilda Molina (Gumecindo) Neris, Roberto Irizarry, Martha DeJesus Quiles all of Puerto Rico, Angelo (Lois) Molina of Illinois, Julio (Cathy) DeJesus of Tennessee, William (Aracelis) DeJesus, Luis (Wilda) DeJesus, Alma (Arnaldo) Maldonado, Zoraida Salgado all of Florida, Angel DeJesus, Ana Thomas, and Jorge DeJesus all of Dunkirk, NY; Mother in law, Alba (Ignacio) Ramos of Dunkirk, NY, along with several aunts and uncles, many nieces and nephews and in-laws. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hector DeJesus.
