Sheila Norris Newton

Sheila Norris Newton, 68, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on June 20th. She was born in Erwin, NC to the late James Avant Norris and Hazel Price Norris on March 6, 1955 and lived most of her life near Raleigh and Durham. She grew up in a home with a loving mother and siblings, and while her health was a challenge all of her life with different illnesses and conditions, her faith was a pillar of strength during difficult times. Her trust in Jesus Christ strengthened her resolve in life and carried her into the loving arms of her Savior when she passed.

On June 22, 1977, she married Bennie Edward Newton, Jr. and began a family with his daughter, Tracey. Over the next few years, they added two more children to their home, a son, Bennie, and a daughter, Stephanie. During the early years of parenting, she was a homemaker. Holidays, special occasions, and family visits were some of the times she served her family well. Even when her health was compromised, you could find her in the kitchen cooking favorite foods for each person. As the years went by, her children married and began families of their own. Her beloved grandchildren- Skylar, Adalyn, Cameron, Ian, and Autumn were the true joys of her heart. She delighted in who they were and who they would become.

Sheila is survived by her husband of almost 46 years, Bennie, Jr. of Durham; daughter, Tracey (Dwayne) Oldham of Rougemont; son, Bennie (Laura Catherine) Newton, III of Raleigh; daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Brust of Benson; grandchildren, Skylar Oldham, Cameron Newton, Adalyn Brust, Ian Brust, and Autumn Brust; sisters Patty (John) Raper, Jr., and Cindy (Terry) Dean; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James Avant Norris, Sr. and Hazel Price Norris; and her brother, James Avant Norris, Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 24th at Hilltop Church in Fuquay Varina, officiated by Pastor Jeff Jones. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 12:45 PM.
