FUQUAY-VARINA - Sherry Barbour Fish, 59, gained her heavenly wings on February 12th, 2023 after a long and valiant battle against cancer. She was born May 1st, 1963 and was the only child of Faye Barbour and the late Wallace Barbour.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17th at 4:00 pm in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the funeral home prior to the service.
Sherry became a nurse at 21 and spent her career caring for others across multiple patient populations and healthcare specialties. Throughout her career, Sherry continued to learn and grow as a person and provider, ultimately attaining a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration and was a Certified Medical Practice Executive with MGMA. At the time of her retirement, Sherry was a Regional Administrator for Rex Vascular Specialists but still assisted at the bedside when the need arose and loved talking to individuals from all walks of life. Of all her many achievements, she considered her greatest accomplishment to be her family and children.
Sherry enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her beloved Butterfly Girls. She was a very talented painter and was passionate about creating beautiful art for her loved ones for fun and special occasions. Sherry loved to travel and have new experiences but never had any desire to move away from her home community and extended family and friends. She loved being active outdoors enjoying all of God’s creation and especially enjoyed spending time at the beach, on the back porch at her home, or in her greenhouse. Sherry also loved to go scuba diving, fishing, boating, camping, skiing, and was an avid reader. She was a proud member of the Class of ’81 at Fuquay Varina High School and was an integral part in bringing her classmates together for numerous reunions and gatherings.
Sherry was a guiding light for many and was always selfless when it came to lending a hand, a shoulder, or an ear and will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Alan Fish of Fuquay Varina; her oldest daughter, Jessica Fish Knott and husband, Logan Knott of Willow Spring; her youngest daughter, Megan Fish and wife, Karen Petersen of Willow Spring; as well as her mother, Faye Barbour of Willow Spring.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation at https://give.themmrf.org/fundraiser/4449195 in Sherry’s honor.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to all their friends and family who helped them care for Sherry in innumerable ways as well as all the healthcare workers who took care of her in the days, weeks, and months she was receiving treatment at Rex Hospital and UNC of Chapel Hill.
