Garner- Shirley Lee Mundy, 80, went home to be with her heavenly father after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 31st from 6-8pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Garner. A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 1st at 11am at Hayes Chapel Christian Church in Garner. On Oct 20, 1959 Shirley married the love of her life, Henry Mundy. Together, they founded the Southside Shopper, Inc. in 1977, where both continued to work until retirement. They were happily married for 57 years until Henry passed on February 13, 2016. Their surviving children Kim Byars(Greg), David Mundy (Tiffany), Rhonda Mundy, and Becky Cates(Paul) were their greatest treasures. They were blessed with and survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Grandchildren; Stephen Jeffries (Rose), Justin Byars (Ashley), Brandon Byars, April Keen, Jordan Keen, Madison Mundy, Megan Mundy, Dalton Mundy. Great grandchildren Kinzley Jeffries, Brady Joyner, Bella Joyner, and Baby Byars on the way. Also surviving are brothers Elmo Lee (Mary), Linwood Lee (Geraldine). Stepsisters Jean Cox, Linda Nelson and Debbie Hoyt (Mark). Shirley was born in Bayboro, NC to Nora Slade Lee and Leon Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Herbert Lee, stepbrother William Crisp, and stepmother Helen Crisp Lee. Shirley enjoyed traveling and spending time at the beach. Her greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, mentor and spiritual leader for her family. Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org or Transitions LifeCare Center, 250 Hospice Circle Raleigh, NC 27607 in Shirley’s memory. The family sincerely thanks all of Shirley’s caregivers and the Transitions Team for their help and loving support. The family also wishes to thank friends for all the food, visits, calls, cards, letters, and prayers during these past several years. It has been greatly appreciated and gave much encouragement.
