Shirley P. Radford

June 29, 1932 — January 24, 2017

GARNER- Shirley Ann Pendergraft Radford, daughter of the late Claude Walker and Mary Walls Pendergraft, completed her earthly walk and went home to her heavenly father on January 24, 2017. Shirley was raised in Raleigh and attended Hugh Morson High School. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, full of compassion for others in need and filled with a servant’s spirit. Shirley demonstrated her servant’s spirit through many opportunities at First Baptist Church in Garner. She was the church secretary for several years, served as a Sunday School teacher and worked in the WMU, the GAs, and vacation bible school. Shirley served in a caretaker’s role for family members in need for many years before being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015. In addition to her parents, Shirley was also predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Magnus B. Radford, and her brothers, Claude, Jr., Bill, and Henry. She is survived by her three sons, Greg (Anne) of Raleigh, Randy of Garner, and Jerry (Courtney) of Raleigh, and her four grandchildren, Steve, Sam, Joshua, and Laura. A graveside service will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 30, 2017. Flowers are accepted. Donations may be made to Garner Area Ministries, Inc., P.O. Box 797, Garner, NC 27529 or to The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001. The family offers a special thanks to Affordable Family Care, Aimee Batten, Debbie Faulkner, the staff of 5C at Wake Medical Center and the staff at Transitions Life Center for their services, support, and many acts of kindness.
