Shirley Whittington Ennis

Shirley Whittington Ennis, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday at Rex Hospital. She was born June 19, 1933 in Johnston County, NC to the late Howard and Mae Whittington. In 1991, she retired from the NC Office of the State Controller after 31 years of service. She enjoyed the beach, surf fishing, and spending time with family. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021, at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church, Raleigh, NC. The burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Talley Ennis and son-in-law, Paul Fjelsted. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Fjelsted; son, Steve Ennis (Genine); grandchildren, Shannon Dickerson (Roger), Heather Jenkins (Kelly), Carmen Denton, Dalton Ennis (Bethany), and Logan Ennis; great-grandchildren, Austin and Bryce Dickerson, Noah Benson, Jacob and Jayce Denton, Peyton and Blakelyn Ennis; step-great-grandchildren, Ashton and Peyton Jenkins; loving sisters, Judith Poole and Sharon Eatmon (Jollie); sister-in-law, Gail Coleman; nieces, Tamra Ellis (Jim), Nichole Scott (Tony), and Cathy Gellatly (Jim); and nephew, Ron Coleman (Judy).
