GARNER – Sidney “Sid” Poole Collins, of Garner, passed away unexpectedly on October 11, 2024. He was born on January 11, 1949, in Wake County, North Carolina, to the late Hunter and Roxie Poole Collins.
Sid is survived by his wife, Sharon Collins; son, Casper Shay Collins of Wilmington; and sister-in-law, Anna Collins (Charles) of Garner. In addition to his parents, Sid is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Collins.
Sid was loved by many people; his easy-going way and sense of humor drew people to him. He was a Sunday School teacher at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church. He loved his friends, the Covenant Responders class; he had a spiritual connection with them and they with him. He was raised in that church and deeply cared for all the folks there.
Sid was also a substitute teacher for Wake County Public Schools for fifteen years, a favorite and precious time in his life. He truly cared for and respected the teachers and staff at those schools he worked for, but he particularly adored the students; they gave him a sense of special purpose in his life. Just getting to know them and getting the opportunity to make a positive impact on their lives gave Sid such a sense of fulfillment. His life seemed complete – and it was!
Another essential part of Sid’s life was his son, Casper Shay. There is no way to adequately describe the depth of his love for Shay; wherever Sid was, you could be sure Shay was never far from his heart and mind. He often said that having Shay in his life meant more to him than his own life.
A memorial service to celebrate Sid will take place on Wednesday, October 16th, 2024, at Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church, 4926 Fayetteville Rd., Raleigh, NC 27603 at 2:00 PM, with a one-hour period of visitation preceding the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Sid’s beloved Ernest Myatt Presbyterian Church are deeply appreciated.
