Sonny Mountcastle

Marion Stuart “Sonny” Mountcastle, III, age 89, of Raleigh North Carolina passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 23rd. Sonny was born on March 26th, 1935, in Weldon, North Carolina to the late Marion Stuart Mountcastle, Jr. and Susan Thomas Fitzhugh Mountcastle.

After graduating from Broughton High School in 1955, he served his country enlisting in the U.S. Army. He worked with the NC Employment Security Commission retiring in 1996.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gail Pittman Mountcastle; their son, Brian Mountcastle and wife, Melise; and grandchildren, Tori Leech and William Mountcastle.

Sonny was buried in a private ceremony at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh, North Carolina on Monday, July 1st. A visitation will be held for friends and family of Sonny from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 13th at the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home on 831 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh, NC.

In-lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the WakeMed Foundation.
