ANGIER - Spencer Edward Teffeteller passed away Friday, December 1, 2023, with his loving family by his side. He was born August 10, 1943, in Maryville, Tennessee.
Spencer served in the USAF for four years. After that, he continued his firefighting career at Pope Air Force Base for thirty-one years before retiring in 1993 as the Fire Chief. In 1972, Spencer started volunteering with the Angier-Black River Fire Department. As Chief, he was instrumental in the building of the new Angier-Black River Fire Department which opened June 4, 1994. He retired from the Angier-Black River Fire Department in 2005. He touched the lives of many firemen with his leadership, wisdom and guidance in their fire service careers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Robert Teffeteller and Jessie and Rex Irwin; and a brother, Stephen Dale Irwin.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Susan Starling Teffeteller; daughters, Sheila Austin of Fuquay-Varina, Janice Hare of Angier, and Robin Stephenson (Chris) of Garner; grandchildren, Jessica Capps (Lee), Lindsey-Dale Igelko (Kevin), Kendall Jones, Austin Massey (Thomas MacGuire), Jarrott Stephenson, Kaleigh Massey, and Helen Grace Hare; great-grandchildren, Connor and Spencer Capps, Raelynn Jones, Kane and Annadale Igelko; a brother,Larry Irwin (Vicki), of Maryville, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the special caregivers, medical staff, and friends for their support in Spencer’s final days.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 3, 2023, from 6-8 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Angier, North Carolina. The funeral will be held Monday, December 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, 4440-A Piney Grove Rd., Angier NC.
The family requests that if Spencer has touched your life in any special way, please fill out a memory card that will be available at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier. These will be given to the family as a keepsake after the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church or your preference of charitable organization.
