WENDELL – Sterling James Hunt, 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022. Sterling was born on June 10, 1931 in Harnett County to Thomas Jefferson Hunt and Virginia Mary Cooper. He is survived by his daughter, Diane Hunt Strickland (Michael) of Wendell; grandson, Michael Strickland, Jr. (Angie) of Wendell; granddaughter, Michele Strickland Crocker of Wendell; two great-granddaughters, Alexis Strickland and Caitlin Crocker of Wendell; sister, Margie Beasley of Cary; sister, Julia LaColle of Raleigh; and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Geraldine Thornton Hunt, who predeceased him December 2, 2021; sister, Ruth Hunt Walker; and brother, Thomas Hunt. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, having served in Germany. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Wendell, the Amran Shriners, and a member of the Vandora Masonic Lodge #745. He was the retired owner of Sterling Motors RV Sales & Service in Garner. A graveside service will be held at Montlawn Memorial Park on Saturday at 3:00 PM with a visitation prior, at 2:30pm in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vandora Masonic Lodge #745 in Garner or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
