Steven M. Purvis

GARNER - Steven M. Purvis, 59, of Garner went to be with the Lord September 3, 2016.  Steve was raised in Bennett, N.C.  He earned a bachelor’s degree from Campbell University, where he played basketball, and a master’s degree from North Carolina State University. He was a loving husband and father. Steve was a lifelong coach who loved athletic competition, coaching basketball, football, and tennis. He also served as a teacher, school administrator, and director of instructional video within the Johnston County School system before retiring earlier this year. Steve was also an active member of Aversboro Road Baptist Church, where he previously served as a deacon and ran the sound system during worship services. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Beasley Purvis; daughter Emily Purvis of Garner; son Michael Purvis (Cathy) of Garner; father Robert Purvis of Bennett; sister Sharon Scott (Charles) of Highfalls; brother Gregory Purvis of Emerald Isle. He is preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jean Purvis of Bennett. Services will be held Tuesday, 2 PM at Aversboro Road Baptist Church with burial at Coats Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30–1:45 PM prior to the service. Contributions in memory of Steve may be made to the sound system or Student Ministry fund at Aversboro Road Baptist Church, 1600 Aversboro Road Garner, NC.
