RALEIGH – Sylvia Satisky Burnette went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 30, 2020. Sylvia, age 87, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on May 14, 1933, to the late Lula Sutton Satisky and Maurice Satisky. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was also preceded in death by her sister, Rita Farmer; and her beloved granddaughter, Chelsea Szerelmey. She is survived by Claiborn Burnette, the love of her life and husband of 65 years; sons, George (Susan) and Mike (Misty); sister, Penny Parker (Rick); grandchildren, Brian Burnette (Monica), George Burnette, Jr. (Catie), James Burnette; and one great-grandchild, Weston Szerelmey. After a long career as the executive assistant to the regional vice-president of Norfolk Southern Railroad, Sylvia and Claiborn spent their retirement years traveling the United States and many countries throughout the world. Sylvia was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church, now Open Table United Methodist Church and cherished the friendships made and bonds forged there. She was a shining example of servanthood, and even in her later years enjoyed volunteering. Sylvia devoted her life to her family and friends and was happiest when spending time with them. Due to the pandemic, a private graveside service for the family will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sylvia’s memory to Open Table United Methodist Church, 824 N. Bloodworth St., Raleigh, NC 27604; or to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607. Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh.
