Garner – Thomas Clark Baucom, 99, passed away Thursday. He was born in Hamlet, NC to Robert W. Baucom and Flaussa Napier Baucom. He graduated from NC State University in 1942 and then joined the Army Air Force in August of ’42 flying in a B-17 bomber called the Merry Mac. He was a radio operator mechanic gunner for 33 missions. In 1945, following his discharge from the service, he moved to Garner, NC with his bride of two years, Katherine Page Baucom. Mr. Baucom taught agriculture and Distributive Education at Garner High School for over 30 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed gardening, selling real estate, working for H&R Block and owned Wedding Consultant Services, a catering business. He was also a member of the American Legion, serving as past commander for Post 232 of Garner. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Garner where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school for over 75 years. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday at First Baptist Church of Garner. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends in the church foyer from 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Baucom is survived by his daughters, Yetive Capps (Louis), Julie Jones (Dan), Katherine Baucom, Alison Seger, Ruth Baucom, Loretta Rittenhouse (Barry), as well as 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Page Baucom; his son, Thomas Marsh Baucom; his second wife, Dora Smith Baucom and her son, Forrest Smith.
