Raleigh – After months of declining health,”Everette Parker, 87, died Monday morning. Everette was born in Smithfield, NC. He was the son of the late Zula Mae Austin Parker and Percy Eli Parker. He was a good man and loved by many. He retired from the News and Observer in 1991 after 40 years. He took a few years to fish and play and went back to work part-time as a courier, retiring again in 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joyce. He is survived by 4 sons; Nelson (Pat) of Madison, GA, Charles (Tricia) of Perry, GA, David and Percy Eric of Raleigh, and a daughter, Debra Lynn Parker Mitchell (Jim) of Raleigh; Grandchildren, Laura, Steve, Rebecca, Rhett, Roy, Erica, Megan and Beau. 2 brothers Arthur (Anna Ruth) of Clemson, SC and Melvin (Margie) of Smithfield and sister Dorothy Langdon of Smithfield. 8 Great Grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Everette was a longtime member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wesley Memorial UMC, 714 E. Whitaker Mill Road, Raleigh, NC 27608. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 15 from 6pm to 8pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road. Service will be Friday, January 16 at 11am at Bryan-Lee. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
