Garner- Thomas Francis Slywka, 71, passed away at his home unexpectedly on Friday. Born in Derby, Connecticut, he was the son of the late William Slywka and Irene Clifford Slywka.
"Tom was a retired machinist and his tendency for meticulously fixing things carried into his everyday life in retirement. He spent his free time helping his family, spending time with neighbors and the people in his many social circles. He was an avid bingo, recreational party game participant, and thoroughly enjoyed live sporting events. Tom brought laughter and life to everyone in his vicinity."
Tom will be forever remembered, as he was very loved and appreciated by his family and in his community.
Thomas is survived by his son, Tim Slywka of Garner; daughters, Whitney Burgess (Chris) of Clayton and Lisa Depasqua of Raleigh; brothers, Daniel Slywka (Mary Ellen) of Seymour, CT and James Slywka (Marge) Middlebury, CT; sisters-in-law, Sue and Roseann; the mother of his children, Judy Oliver of Garner; several nieces and nephews; and last but certainly not least, he was the special Pop Pop to three K9’s, Haider, Skie, and Pheobe.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnny Slywka and William Slywka.
