Thomas “Neil” Mclean

FUQUAY-VARINA – Thomas “Neil” McLean, 84, passed away Tuesday at Wake Medical Center in Cary. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alton Lee McLean and Maggie Ethel McLean. A Harnett county native, Neil was born on the McLean Homeplace where he spent his life, with his brother Charles, farming the family land. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a lifelong sports fan, and was especially fond of the Tarheels. Affectionately known as Pa, he was a father of 3, grandfather of 6, and great-grandfather to 9. He is survived by his loving wife, Genevieve J. McLean, to whom he was married 65 years. Also surviving are daughters, Jennie Lynn Butts (Steve) of Fuquay-Varina and Sherrie Lewis (Hugh) of Raleigh; son, Terry Neil McLean (Vicky) of Fuquay-Varina; sister, Alene Pennington of Durham; grandchildren, Tabitha Rich of Fuquay-Varina, Stephen Butts (Lauren) of Fuquay-Varina, Angie Williamson (Eric) of Wake Forest, Rob Lewis (Alicia) of Raleigh, Adam Lewis (Lauren) of Raleigh, and Lauren McLean of Fuquay Varina; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Garrett, and Wesley Butts, Alisyn and Olivia Rich, Kaylie and Laynie Williamson, and Cullen and Carson Lewis; sister-in-law, Virginia McLean of Fuquay-Varina. Neil was preceded in death by his brothers, A.L., John Hugh, Ralph, and Charles McLean. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Cokesbury United Methodist Church in Fuquay-Varina. The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
