Angier - Tom Dorman, 89, passed away on Friday, February 28th at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Johnston County, he was the son of the late Paul Onslow Dorman and Ava Hayes Dorman.
Tom was a kind and gentle man who had a smile that was contagious. A true man of God, Tom devoted his life to the Lord and his family. Entering pastoral ministry in 1965, Tom pastored 11 churches during his career. Tom's dedication didn't stop with the church that he was currently serving. He served on the Pentecostal Freewill Baptist Church World Witness Board for several years. Tom did evangelistic work all along the East Coast from Pennsylvania to Florida and even ministered in the country of Costa Rica for a 10-day revival. Tom retired from 49 years of pastoral work at the age of 79.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 3rd in the chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 300 E. McIver St. Angier, NC 27501. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am -12:45 pm prior to the service at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 6th at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S. Wilmington St. Raleigh, NC 27603.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Bobbie McLamb Dorman; children, Angela "Angie" Harris (Fred) of Fuquay-Varina and Jody Dorman of Coats; grandchildren, Jennifer Dorman of Bolton, Brittany Dorman (Brandon Moore) of Bolton, Laurie Haaland (Ryan) of Portland, OR, and Sherri Harris Kath (Silas) of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Rylie Graham, Jase Dorman, and Miles Kath; sister-in-law, Ruby Stephenson of Angier; brother-in-law, Marvin Bryant, Jr. of Dunn.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his son, Joel Dorman; sisters, Lillian Pearce, Lavinia Pope, and Lila Bryant; brothers, Nassie Dorman, Norwood Dorman, Lawton Dorman, Jarvis Dorman, Ted Dorman, Judd Dorman, and Benny Ray Stephenson.
