Tommy Nile Gray

Tommy Nile Gray, 93, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023. A native of Harnett County, Tommy was born May 2, 1929, to the late John and Vera Jane Gardner Gray. Tommy proudly served his county in the US Army. He had a love for the outdoors and a passion for gardening. Tommy helped at Saint Andrew’s UMC for years with the grounds and would grow many flowers and also tomatoes at home. His true love was Japanese Maple trees and he would grown them from seedlings to either give away or sell as a fundraiser for church softball teams. He loved NC State sports and Atlanta Braves Baseball. More than anything though, Tommy loved his family and treated all the kids like grandchildren, before having his own two, Bailey and Carter.

A celebration of his Tommy’s life will be held at 2:30PM, Friday, February 17, 2023, at Sunrise United Methodist Church, 5420 Sunset Lake Road, Holly Springs, NC 27540. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will be private.

Tommy is survived by his son, David N. Gray; grandchildren, Bailey and Carter Gray; sister, Willie Joyner; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Murphy Gray; sisters, Mildred Gray, Gladys Stephens, and Sylvia Lee; and brothers, Gordon, Wilton, Hurshell, Shelton, and David Gray.
