Troy Kenneth Green, 91 passed away Monday, August 19, 2024 at Transitions LifeCare Hospice Center after a period of declining health. Troy was born in Sylva, NC to the late Von Dere and Margie Green.
Troy was in the Army from 1949-1953 and was released on Honorable Active Duty as a Sergeant. He worked as a guard at Central Prison while attending Hardbarger Business College where he received his associate degree in Accounting.
Troy started with the State Government in 1955 as a Field Auditor with the Department of Revenue. In 1969, he became a Special Investigator with the Attorney General's Office, and in 1975 was made Director of the Special Investigations Division. He was quite active in the State Employees Association. In 1974-75 he served as President of the 28,000 member state employees group. In addition, he was the Convention Chairman for 12 years, and on the National Board of Directors of Assembly of Government Employees for 3 years. He was a member of the North Carolina Law Enforcement Association.
Troy retired in December 1987 and was asked to come out of retirement to be the interim Director of State Employees for several years.
Troy enjoyed the outdoors, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Bentwinds Golf course in Fuquay Varina. He also enjoyed working on projects around his home. He was a devoted family member and especially liked spending time with his grandsons Austin and Evan.
Troy is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Seagroves Green, son Kenneth Green and his wife Vickie, daughter Sandra Green Lilly; daughter, Lisa Green Council and her husband Clint Council of Castle Hayne, NC; his two grandsons, Austin and Evan Council. He is also survived by his brothers, Clyde Green, Jimmy Green and his two sisters, Alva Jean Tranthan and Rachael Ann Hayes.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Monday, August 26th at St. Andrews United Methodist church in Raleigh, N.C.. Visitation will begin at 10 am, the service will immediately follow at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, NC.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Andrews UMC to the General Fund at 1201 Maxwell Drive Raleigh, NC 27603.
