Vickie Marlene Pyne

January 17, 1952 — September 7, 2022

FUQUAY-VARINA - Vickie Marlene Pyne, 70, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on September 7, 2022.

She was born January 17, 1952, in Long Beach, California to the late Jacqueline J. Pettit and Melvin M. Megee II.

She grew up around Southern California where she graduated from Artesia High School in 1970. She went on to obtain her cosmetology license, and then became a typist and administrative assistant for the aerospace field.

She married the late Patrick A. Pyne on January 14, 1984, and they were blessed with their only child, a daughter, Kimberly A. Pyne in November 1988.

Over the years, Vickie became a strong, independent, single parent, and in June 2006, Vickie and Kimberly drove 3,000 miles from California to North Carolina to start a new life. Vickie began working for Maola Milk and Ice Cream for the ice cream call center in September 2006, and retired December 30, 2016.

Always a fan of NASCAR, Vickie could be found cheering on Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Sr. on the weekends, and cursing Jeff Gordon. She was also amazing at crocheting intricate pieces, such as afghan blankets, Christmas stockings, baby hats, and baby blankets. Vickie was also determined to find the exact crochet pattern to a worn Christmas tree skirt she made in the late 1990s and was able to replicate it again to perfection a few years ago. As many stitches as she moved forward, she tore that many out because she was a “perfectionist.”

Vickie was also a big fan of the television show “The Golden Girls,” and could quote lines before they were even said. Many who knew her compared her to Sophia Petrillo, a cantankerous old lady with no filter.

Vickie also passed down her love of dogs to her daughter, Kimberly. Although she couldn’t adopt as many dogs as she wanted over the years, she always treated them as family members. Even though her and her first grand-pup Charlie didn’t initially get along, they grew to love each other until Charlie crossed the Rainbow Bridge in May 2020. She also dog-sat her newest grand-pup, Milo, while Kimberly worked overnight shifts just so he wouldn’t be alone.

Vickie is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Pyne (Jason Camin of Fuquay Varina) and her dachshund grand-pup, Milo, of Angier. She is also survived by a host of special friends: Morgan Adams of Holly Springs, who was like the son she never had; Darlene Gardner of Clayton; Tony Bumgarner of Wade; Lynda Miller of Corona, CA; Vanda Morgan of Stillwell, OK; and her beloved best friend of over 25 years, Cynthia Brimer of Buena Park, CA.

A visitation will be held Friday, September 16th from 12-2pm at the Bryan Lee Funeral Home in Angier with memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM. Family will receive friends at Kimberly’s home in Angier after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wake County SPCA.
