Raleigh Victor A. Griffin passed away on January 7, 2016 at Rex Hospital after an extended illness. He is survived by his wife Marilyn B. Griffin, his 3 daughters: Sylvia Hammons and Jerry Hammons, Elizabeth and Howard Snotherly and Vickie and David Tribble and Marilyn’s 4 children: Laura Smith, Scott Grimes, Stewart Grimes and Georgia Edwards along with 16 Grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great, Great Grandchild. He was a member of St. Mark’s UMC in Raleigh. Sergeant Griffin was a retired 30 year veteran of the NC Highway Patrol and a retired Director of Safety and Security at UNC Rex Health Care. He dedicated his life to service and was involved in many community and civic organizations including membership in the Shriners, the Masons and the Jaycees. In 1974, he received the Long Leaf Pine award. Funeral Saturday January 9, 2016. Visitation to be held from 9:30 until 11:00 am with funeral at 11:0O am at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh at 831 Wake Forest Road. Burial to follow immediately in Raleigh Memorial Park with Highway Patrol Honors. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the NC Highway Patrol Trooper Association and/or Rex HealthCare Foundation.
