Viola Mae Vaughn

September 23, 1939 — March 20, 2023

Viola, Pat or Patty as most people called her, 83, went to rest in Jesus on March 20, 2023, at 8:15pm. She was surrounded by family and listening to her favorite hymn, “Abide With Me”. She was born September 23, 1939 to Mr. Keith Neville and Geraldine Jenny Auxier Moore in Omaha, Nebraska.

Pat lived in several different places in her early years, but she and her family, always returned to the community of Oak Grove Heights in Rogersville, Missouri. She attended Ozark Academy, Adelphian Academy, La Sierra College, and Southern Missionary College (today known as Southern Adventist University). She met and married the love of her life, Ronald Eugene Vaughn in Holly Michigan on August 23, 1959 in a double ceremony with Ron’s sister, Connie Vaughn and Dwight Davis. She had many professions over the years including: school teacher, cook at Mobile Junior Academy and later at Florida Living nursing home, medical librarian, pastor’s wife, and her most important job as a stay at home mom to her children. She loved the Lord and her church family and was a member of the Raleigh Seventh-Day Adventist Church when she died.

Pat loved to paint with Bob Ross, water color paint, sew, read, and study her Bible. During her final years, she loved to watch the birds at the bird feeder outside the living room window next to her recliner. She was even known to try and chase a pesky squirrel or two away from that bird feeder. She loves animals, as long as they weren’t hers. Even though she never wanted pets, animals were always drawn to her and would go to her before anyone else. She loved to laugh and had a vivid imagination, even as an adult. She would spend hours with her grandchildren, playing and imagining.

Pat is survived by her husband of 63 years, Ron Vaughn; her son Victor Vaughn; her daughters, Kelli Gohrs (Vaughn) and Robin Hughes; her grandchildren, Casey Vaughn, Abby Vaughn, Esther Oxentenko (Harmon), Josiah Harmon, Jacob Gohrs, and Rita Maxwell; her sister Karolyn Booth (Moore); her nephew, Troy Van Horn and nieces, Ruthie Nickerson (Davis) and Dana Davis. In addition to her parents, Pat is proceeded in death by her daughter Dawn Elene and her granddaughter Eleanor “Ellie” Gohrs.

A memorial service is planned on April 8, 2023 at 5pm at Raleigh Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 4805 Dillard Drive, Raleigh, NC. All are welcome to attend.
