Virginia C. Moore

Sanford- Virginia C. Moore, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday in Fort Mill, SC surrounded by her loving family. Virginia was the daughter of the late Henry Rose Carter and Martha Caroline Wilder Carter. She was born in Robeson County, NC, but spent most of her life in Sanford, NC. While raising 4 children Virginia returned to school to pursue nursing. She graduated top of her class and then worked as a nurse at Lee County Hospital in Sanford until moving to Wilmington, NC where she worked for many years at Cape Fear Memorial as an OB nurse. On retirement, Virginia moved to the Raleigh area to be closer to her daughter where she remained active, working as a children’s care giver at the local YMCA. Until her recent declining health Virginia maintained a sharp mind and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 31st at 1:00 PM at Providence Presbyterian Church, 14664 NC 210 Highway Angier, NC 27501. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall from 12:00-12:45 PM prior to the service at the church. A green burial will follow the service at Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, 1313 Cool Springs Rd. Sanford, NC 27330. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Carolyn M. Johnson and husband, Wade of Smithfield, Virginia (Ginny) M. Starnes and husband, Jim of Indian Land, SC; son, Kenneth Moore and wife, Janet of Conway, SC; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Luman Moore; one son, John L. Moore Jr. and daughter in law Amanda C. Moore.; one granddaughter Katie Moore; brothers, J.C. Carter, Rufus Carter, Luther Carter and Kirby Carter. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to Providence Presbyterian Church.
