Virginia "Jenny" Altman Penny

Angier – Virginia “Jenny” Altman Penny, 86, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024.

A native of Harnett County, NC, Virginia was born on January 31, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Lloyd Hampton Altman, Sr. and Sarah Hodges Altman.

Virginia was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, educator, and Sunday school teacher. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a selfless, compassionate listener whose kindness and words provided comfort to anyone who needed them.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, L. Reid Penny; brother, Lloyd “LH” Altman, Jr.; sister-in-law, Nancy Andrews Altman; niece, Pamela Ann Altman; brother-in-law, Stacy Blake Penny; and a nephew, Johnny Blake Penny all of whom she loved dearly.

Virginia is survived by her loving daughter, Dr. Sharon Lynn Penny (Terry Holder); niece, Kimberly Lynn Altman; nephews, Hampton Altman III (Tina), Alan Penny (Nancy), Eric Penny; sister-in-law, Idell Penny; niece-in-law, Celia Penny; special lifelong friend, Margie Dorman Stewart; and her devoted, protective, and precious dog, Rufus Altman-Penny.

We would like to extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our family, friends, the NC Dept. of Adult Corrections Pharmacy staff, and the Long Beverage family for their caring thoughts, prayers, and support during this time of sorrow.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 9th from 5:00-7:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 300 E. McIver St. Angier. The family will receive friends at other times on Thursday and Friday at Virginia’s home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 10th at Angier Baptist Church, 155 S. Hickory St. Angier, NC 27501. The burial will follow at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier.
