Carl Arnett, 93, passed away on February 23, 2016. He was born July 12, 1922 in Troup County, GA to Richmond C. and Katie DeLoach Arnett and grew up in Lanett, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years Julia Phillips Arnett, brothers Charlie Arnett and Harold Arnett. He is survived by daughter Susan Arnett of Garner; son Phillip Arnett and wife Mitzi of Raleigh; grandson Kevin Arnett and wife Lauren of Raleigh and new great grandson Finley; sister Claire Gunn of Smyrna, Ga.; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. Carl graduated from Lanett High School and Auburn University. He proudly served in the US Navy during World War II in the Philippines. He worked for Travelers Insurance Co. for 30+ years in Birmingham, Mobile, AL and Atlanta, GA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf and watching sports on TV. He was a member of Edenton Street United Methodist Church. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 27, at 1 pm at Edenton Street United Methodist Church, Raleigh. The family will receive friends in the Commons Area following the service. A second Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 2:00 pm, at McCarthy Funeral Home, 1200 2nd Ave., West Point, GA, with a visitation for family and friends beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery, Lanett, AL. The family would like to extend special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Laurels of Forest Glenn in Garner for the exceptional care over the last year. Memorial contributions may be made in Carl’s honor to Edenton Street United Methodist Church.
