CLAYTON– Wade E. Holmes, 95, passed away on Friday at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield. Wade was born in Durham, NC to the late Cleveland H. Holmes and Sallie Joyner Holmes. Shortly after birth his dad and mother moved back to their hometown of Louisburg, NC. Wade’s father died when Wade was five years old and on August 30, 1930 he entered the Methodist Orphanage. Wade graduated from High School in 1941. He served in the Navy from November 1942 to October 1945. He worked for the Atlantic Tobacco Company Raleigh Branch from 1946 to 1984. He married Mary Alice Stephenson on October 21, 2001 and moved to Clayton, NC. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday June 5th at 2:00 PM at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh with military honors. Anyone wishing to visit Wade is welcome to come by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner on Tuesday, June 5th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Survivors include his wife, Mary Holmes and numerous nieces and nephews, but his nieces, Jane, Hope and Michelle were very special to him. In addition to his parents, Wade was preceded in death by his brothers, Linwood Holmes, C.H. Holmes; sisters, Adele Holmes Moore, Jessie T. Holmes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to The Methodist Orphanage Alumni in care of Billy Griffin, 1313 Old Bramble Lane Fuquay-Varina, NC 27526.
