Raleigh – Walter K. Chapman went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2017, with his beloved wife of 60 years, Josephine Roberts Chapman, by his side. Walter was born on April 2, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Chapman, and two brothers, G. C. Chapman, and Timothy Chapman. He loved and was deeply loved by his sisters-in-law, Signa Faye Spence of Newport, Sarah Winberry and husband David Winberry of Cedar Point, and brother-in-law Walter Daniel Roberts, Jr. of Newport; his niece Julie Spence McKnight (Brian) of Cary; nephews Walter Roberts III (Sarah) of Newport, John Roberts (Leah) of Raleigh, and William Spence of Newport; great nieces Lillian McKnight and Sarah McKnight of Cary, Ellery Roberts and Lila Roberts of Newport, and great nephew John Marshall Roberts of Raleigh. Walter was a retired Major with the North Carolina Highway Patrol. He served as a Major in the Raleigh Headquarters and was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine by Gov. Hunt in 1993 for his 36 years of service to the State of North Carolina. After retiring, he earned his appraisal license and opened an appraisal company. He was also a veteran serving in the US Army. Walter’s service will take place at Christ Baptist Church, 400 Newton Rd., Raleigh on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at Amariah Garner Cemetery, Nine Foot Rd., Newport on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Baptist Church, 400 Newton Rd., Raleigh, NC 27615.
