GARNER – Walter Cleveland Whitt, 86, died Wednesday. Born in Halifax, VA, he was the son of the late Lemmie Jack Whitt, Sr. and Elsie Cole Whitt. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He retired as a supervisor from Carolina Power and Light Co. with 40 years of service and later worked with Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner for 16 years. Funeral services will be 12:00 pm Saturday at First Baptist Church of Garner, where he was a member. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. A committal service with military honors will be held 10:00 am Monday at Montlawn Memorial Park. Survivors include his wife, Grace Whitt; daughter, Cheryl Whitt Walker and husband, John of Clayton; son, Ronnie K. Whitt of Garner; step-son, Eric Willis and wife, Regina of Myrtle Beach; sister, Betty Jean Horton of Roxboro; brothers, H.L. Whitt, Hugh Whitt and wife and Wayne Whitt, all of Roxboro; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie C. Whitt and brother, Jack Whitt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Garner, 601 St. Mary’s St., Garner, NC 27529 or to the Parkinson’s Association of the Carolinas, 5970 Fairview Rd. Ste. 217, Charlotte, NC 28210.
