GARNER – Walter Parks Gray, 85, died Monday after a brief illness. Born in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Klondike and Elizabeth Gray. Parks was a veteran of the US Army and served from 1953-1955. He was assigned to the 86th Mountain Infantry, 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale, Colorado. A Memorial service will be held Friday, 11:00 am at First Presbyterian Church of Garner. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Survivors include his daughters, Leslie Grady (Jack) of Marietta, GA and Robin Dunn (Mike) of Greensboro; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, as well as a large and loving extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marion “Mitzi” Gray; brothers, Donald Gray and K.D. Gray. Parks loved life and never met a stranger. He always wanted to know your name and where you were from, and could spend hours visiting with friends and family. He worked for Lyon Metal Products for forty years, traveling in eastern North Carolina and to military bases across the U.S. Family was most important to Parks, and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend.
