Walter Wallace Lee, Jr.

GARNER - Walter Wallace Lee, Jr., 60, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Throughout his illness, he was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Durham, NC, on March 19, 1955, to Walter Wallace Lee, deceased, and Ruthie Batten Lee. Wallace was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend. Wallace was married for 41 years to his high school sweetheart, Vickie DeBerry. After graduation from Garner Senior High School, Wallace joined PSNC Energy and was a loyal employee for 41 years. His customers and co-workers will remember his big smile, great sense of humor, and his joy of life. In hunting season, Wallace could be found sharing time with family and friends at Longhorn Hunting Club. His last trip to the club was on Thanksgiving Day, when he was joined by son Chris, brothers Al and Steve, son-in-law Matt, and grandson Ayden. Wallace and Vickie’s happy place was anywhere together – especially Myrtle Beach, SC. Wallace is survived by his best friend and love of his life, wife Vickie DeBerry Lee; sons, Bryan Lee and Chris Lee of Garner; daughter, Brooke Hire and husband, Matt of Bunnlevel. Beloved grandchildren, Ayden Lee, Camden and Griffin Hire; his mother, Ruthie Lee Gay of Greensboro; sisters, Gwen Wilson and husband, Rick of Greensboro, Paula Gay and wife, Anne Bailey of Selma; brothers, Steve Lee and wife, Barbara of Lewisville; Al Gay, Jr. of Lewisville; Matt Cloyes and husband, Tom of Hagerstown, MD; Rob Gay and wife, Michelle of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Janice Mitchell of Garner. Also surviving are his aunts, Louise Nichols of Dunn, Ann Mizell of Durham, and Jeane Batten of Greensboro, and numerous nieces and nephews. He greatly loved his family and will always be in our hearts. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. Entombment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh.
