Weldon A. Simmons

GARNER- Weldon A. Simmons, 83, passed away Wednesday at Wake Medical Center. Born in Sampson County, he was the son of the late David Lee Simmons and Lou Pearl Pierce Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a veteran of the US Army and served in Germany. He retired from CP&L after 36 years service. In 1982, the Mayors Committee for Services to the Handicapped honored Mr. Simmons by presenting him withThe Supervisor of the Year award at their annual banquet. He was a member of Garner Masonic Lodge 701 and a forty year member of First Baptist Church of Garner. Funeral services will be 12:00 pm Saturday at First Baptist Church of Garner. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Survivors include his wife Josephine W. Simmons; daughter, Beth S. Toothman and husband, Richard of Carrollton, GA; son, David W. Simmons and wife, Patricia of Garner; brother, Milford L. Simmons of Morehead City; grandchildren, Johanna Simmons, Michael Simmons, Trevor Toothman, and Lindsey Toothman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rachel S. Carter.The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00-8:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Garner, 601 St. Marys Street, Garner, NC 27529.
